Scholarship Opportunities –

Will he have time to study?

Yes, quiet hours are enforced during study hours (7:00p-10:00p Sun-Thur); Sun-Thur from 10:00p-7:00a; and Friday & Saturday nights from 1:00a-7:00a.

The house is also quiet throughout the day, so plenty of time is available for study.  We will track your son’s grades his first semester to help him stay on top of things.  We find that this helps students transition from high school to college.

Theta Xi is adamant about good grades, and everything we can do to help your son perform to the best of his ability will be done.

What is his role going to be the first year at school?

All Associate Members are treated with care and respect. Your son will be expected to perform cleaning details around the house, as we all do.  Everyone in the house is treated equally.

Do fraternities haze?

No. Theta Xi is a strictly non-hazing organization.  The associate member program does nothing that will compromise your son, nor will he be forced to do anything inappropriate against his will.

Aren’t all fraternities like Animal House?

No. Don’t believe everything you see in the movies.

The Greek system can do a lot of positive things for the community and for your son.  Greek students often get higher grades than students who live in the residence halls or in individual apartments, and Greek students have a higher retention and graduation rate.  A fraternity can help your son develop leadership skills and life-long friendships.  The Greek community helps the entire community by sponsoring philanthropy and community service projects.

Being Greek can help you to become a well-rounded person, something employers are seeking.

Will I have opportunities to be involved in my son’s college experience?

Absolutely! We encourage parents to remain involved in your son’s life and education.

Every year we host a parent’s day banquet (the full family is invited) when you will have a chance to mingle with everyone in the house and have a good meal.  We also host a father/son work weekend when the dads are welcome to come down, work on an improvement project with us, and hang out for the weekend.  Other than certain closed activities, parents and family members are always welcome to stop by any time.

Do you have any oversight?

Yes, Theta Xi’s National Headquarters is located in St. Louis, MO (thetaxi.org) and provides oversight for all 49 Chapters and 2 Colonies. In addition to our National Leadership, we have a very involved group of alumni who help us stay on track. Among other things, they clearly define minimum expectations of us and hold us accountable to those standards.
